This Dutch designer is breaking all the rules. From creating furniture in shapes that seem out of this world, to pieces that seem like they shouldn't stand up to furniture made out of materials that shouldn't to do what he's asking them to do, Maarten Baas' work is definitely and completely like no other today. (Or yesterday. And probably not even tomorrow.) His partially-burned wood furniture called Smoke for Moooi is legendary and his Clay Furniture series, modeled completely by hand, looks more like a 3D drawing than something you'd sit on. One part absurd, another brilliant.
