ABOUT Rollingwood

Furniture
& design
for urban
lifestyles.

This project started with a cool, young family that came into the showroom looking for a sofa. They had just relocated from Florida, and we quickly realized they needed much more than just a sofa. After a visit to their home we discovered that their furniture from the previous home just didn't fit the incredible architecture of their new home, designed by Austin's Barley & Pfeiffer Architects. We started with the Highland Sectional and Fjord Ottomans from Moroso to create a great lounge space, and accented with pillows from Maharam and Missoni Home. The dining room needed lots of seating for family holiday dinners, so we knew the Light Extending Table from Matthew Hilton and the Deer Chairs from Autoban would be perfect.

However, once we started to visualize the pieces in the room we realized the tall ceilings and open space needed a little division to create more intimacy in the dining and living areas. We also knew this divider would need to be in balance with the strong architecture of the concrete fireplace. We worked with a local woodworker and created shelving made of stacked, open cubes of different depths that is anchored to the ceiling. To provide a visual weight (and greatly increase the storage space in the dining room), the bottom cubes are cabinets with solid walnut doors and backs. We also created a three-dimensional, built-in bar cabinet with different depths, a flip-down door and lighting to increase the storage and accent the architecture. All of these pieces blend seamlessly with the walnut kitchen cabinets.

In the playroom, we created the perfect place for the kids to play their new motion-sensor video games by removing the connector bars on the bottom of the Diesel Nebula Nine Sofa....creating two mirror-image chaise lounges that scream edgy comfort (and perfect for kids in a pre-shrunk linen/cotton blend and covers that unzip and go straight to the washing machine) and open up the tiny room. We love the deep navy blue fabric with the Nanimarquina Topissimo rug in orange. The pillows and wallpaper from Maharam and Diesel Fork Lamp were the cherries on top of the cool, hip space.

In the guest bedroom, we wanted to keep the feeling warm, light and airy. The Hepburn bed from Matthew Hilton was perfect, with its attached side table to keep the floor uncluttered. The Tolomeo wall sconces keep the small side tables open for a book or refreshing drink. To add the touch of energy we always love to add, Missoni Home pillows and a graphic rug from Delos were the ideal final touches.
